I need to start this “story” about 27 years ago…
1980 -- I was a junior in high school at the time and a friend of mine happened to be going out for our high schools cross country team. I’m guessing that the team needed more members, so my friend talked me into coming out with the team and trying it for a week or so. I didn’t necessarily enjoy running, but I enjoyed sports and was not good enough to play basketball or baseball – so cross country would need to do. I wasn’t a great runner and would only run during the season (my teammates would run their 500 mile summer schedule and I would run the 0 mile summer schedule). I ended up being a low end Varsity runner with my lowest 5k time being 17:41 and I did actually win a JV meet (still not sure how that happened). My goal of obtaining that Varsity Letter for the Letter Jacket had been reached.
Next up 1986…
