Last night I made my way to the local pool and plunked down the cash for a 9 month family membership. I haven't been in the water since the IronMan swim.
My plan was to just swim 500yds and see how I felt. Well, the swim went very good -- it was a nice feeling to be "starting" at a very good point compared to last year when I started from scratch. I did get a bit tired from time to time, but my stroke was good and I actually had a bit of a kick to kick my hips up. I got so used to the wetsuit last year that I was a bit nervous on how I'd swim without it.
This year my plan is to really increase my swimming ability without a wetsuit -- the water temps last year for IronMan Louisville were above 78 degrees -- so no wetsuits allowed. If this would have occurred at IronMan Wisconsin -- I would have made it, but it would have been much harder.
I need to "snow bird" in the winter so I can keep doing just open water swimming...
