Tomorrow is race day...

Today Mrs. Team BRAZO and myself made our way to the Cottage in preparation for the Door County Half-marathon Saturday morning. The day was in the mid-40’s with rain – which was heavy at times. After stopping by the Cottage we made our way over to Peninsula State Park where the race will take place tomorrow.

The fun part of the half-marathon in Peninsula State Park, is the fact that we spend many nights during the summer at the park. We don’t camp, but instead we ride our boat from Sturgeon Bay up to Peninsula State Park and anchor out in Nicole Bay – which is the main beach area for the Park. During the summer months there are probably 50+ boats that come into the bay and anchor for the day. Most of those boats leave during the early evening, leave us (in our Trawler) and a few sailboats for the night. It probably is our favorite place to anchor for the night and because last year I concentrated on IronMan Wisconsin – we stayed close to “home” and ventured to Nicole Bay often.

Tomorrow’s race starts at Nicole Bay and winds through the parks roads. This is the first running of the Door County Half-marathon and hopefully they have a great turnout.

Mrs. Team BRAZO is all set to go - a bit nervous and a bit excited to get it done – she’ll do great. I’m all set to attempt the sub 2 hour finish. I have a plan to keep even splits around 8:50 per mile and to keep a careful watch on my heart rate. The key to completing the 13.1 at a fast pace (for me) is the ability to keep my heart rate under 145 bpm – if I can settle into a 8:50 pace and my heart rate is below 145, then I should have a chance.

Off to rest up the legs…
