Today I completed my longest ride since IronMan Wisconsin 2007 in September. I went on my favorite Cottage bike route which is 28 miles for one loop and I completed two loops. The ride went perfect with no wind and the temps in the mid-70's. The route I go on has very little car traffic and a speed limit of 35 the whole way.
I'm sure many of you hard-core IM folks out there are a bit concerned for me seeing that we have about 9 weeks to go and this is my first 56 mile bike ride. Well, don't fret (at least not yet) -- last year I did the High Cliff Half IronMan on June 26th and the 56 mile bike ride was the longest that I had ever completed in my life. So at least this year I know that I can do 112 -- just a matter of working back up the miles.
On Sunday, I'll do another 56 miles on the Door County Half IronMan route along with a 10k run afterwards.
Not too concerned at this point -- last year my goal was to complete a few 112 mile bike rides and a couple 2.4 mile swims and to stay HEALTHY!! That is a major piece of the puzzle -- staying healthy. It is hard to train when you have "issues", so that is my number 1 goal. My next goal is to build my long bikes and swims over the next several weeks.
So, I feel that I'm on the way to being ready for IronMan Louisville.
To all those attending WIBA this year -- have fun -- last year was a blast (outside of getting lost on my route from Verona to Madison to complete my 112 for the day -- ended up in the BMC vehicle for the ride to Madison).
