Today I made my way over to Verona to ride a loop of the IronMan Wisconsin Bike Course. This was the first time since completing IronMan Wisconsin 2007 that I have been on the bike course. I had planned on doing two (2) loops, but because we are leaving for the next 2 weeks -- I decided to just complete one loop.
I love the bike course (outside of the ride from Verona to Mt. Horeb) with all the ups and downs -- keeps it interesting and you are always changing gears, going in and out of the aero bars, etc.
Regarding my aero bars, last year I had to force myself to stay in the aero position on the bike. It just didn't feel confortable and actually caused me some shoulder pain from time to time. This year I don't like coming out of the aero position. I feel much "faster" and effecient in the aero position and have no aches or pains. Last Sunday I rode 99% of the 56 miles in the aero position with no pain -- outside of the leg pain caused by 56 miles on a bike.
For my IronMan Louisville training this year, I do not plan on riding any full 112 bike rides. Just don't have the desire to do that and I don't think it is necessary for me to complete the IM bike ride. I'll try to complete a few 80+ rides and just go with that -- maybe (if I get crazy) I'll complete a 100 mile ride, but at this point the desire to ride that long in training is just not there.

Thanks for the Door County water/temperature update. Glad to hear the water is a "swimmable" temperature. My father-in=law actually put his heat on last night!
I'm a real believer in the 100 mile ride...mentally more than anything. I have not done a full Ironman, however, so what do I know!!!
Sounds like breakthrough training. I'm happy it's going well for you. IM Louisville is right around the corner. WOW! I suppose I don't have to tell you that, though!
Sounds like a solid plan. I agree with you in that I didn't get much out of my full 112-mile rides except the mental aspect, and now that you know you can (and have!) done it a few times over, probably not at all necessary.
So happy that training is going so well!
Did you do anything different to enjoy aero? I have always had comfort issues in Aero, and been considering going and getting a bike fit done.
