So, you may ask (or I may ask) why another IronMan. IMWI 2009 will be my 3rd year in a row doing an IronMan. Well here is a list of why and why not:
-- because I love doing 7 hour training rides on my road bike – ummm, NO
-- because I love swimming lap after lap after lap in the pool all winter – ummmm, NO
-- because I love the 18+ training weeks as IronMan approaches – ummm, NO
-- because I love to spend $500+ for race entry – ummm, NO
-- because I love to step on the scale and see 171 lbs and being able to eat anything that I choose – ummm, YES
-- because I love the fact that my Cholesterol went from 209 to 150 – ummm, YES
-- Because I love the fact that I’m forced to do those 7 hour training rides and those mega laps in the pool – without IronMan in the background, I just wouldn’t do it. YES
-- Because I love the fact that I’m 43 years old and I’m in by far the best shape of my life. YES
-- Because I feel if I take a year off from IronMan, it’ll be just that much harder to get back in the game. YES
-- Because I know that I can enter any endurance race/sport/etc out there and I’ll be able to complete it. YES
-- Because I love the challenge that IronMan brings. I’m just a Finisher, so each year will bring me different challenges (weather, training, injury, etc) that I’ll need to overcome. YES
-- Because my body has held up great to the 2-in-a-row IronMan’s – I have no injuries, no problems, no blisters, nothing. YES
-- Because I plan on being around to participate in anything that my boy’s invite me to participate in when they get older. YES, YES, YES

"no problems"
aren't you the "eyes rolled back in my head at mile 109 of the bike" guy?
Otherwise.. you're right on. My reason for me would be the perm-a-grin on race day. (no, I didn't sign up).

I am envious again...my life schedule just will not permit a full Ironman this year, but I DO hope to finally do one soon.
Regards,
Bob
I agree completely with you. Right now I am in such bad shape...it is because of no ironman to push me this last year. I know I will be back in the game for 2010 races, so...that helps with the mind game of getting back to where I can actually start the training.
does that make any sense?
I would have to agree with every last point on this. I think the thing I love best is being bale to go out and run a 1/2 marathon or whatever on any given day!
Great list!! Good luck in 09!!!
Now why cant my friends and family see IM training like you do.
IM WI was a blast this year. Heading back 2009, Kat~
