Blog Friends -- what has happened to me...

Thanks to the idea from Go Mom Go, we decided to start a Team Louisville blog that would be open to anyone participating in the 2008 Louisville IronMan. The idea would be to share stories, information, training tips, local information, etc for all that may be participating in the Louisville IronMan 2008.

For a guy that is completely 100% an individual trainer – very few group rides, no group runs, no group swims – this is odd that I would enjoy a concept like the team blog. If you really knew me, you’d know that I have very few close friends and I spend pretty much 100% of my time with the family. I’m able to workout during the day (weekdays), so outside of my wife, no one is usually around to run/bike/swim with.

My thoughts changed a bit when I attended the 2007 Wisconsin Brick Adventure in July 2007. I never ever attend those types of things, but because IronMan was such a big part of my life at the time with all the training – I wanted to share some of this with other current/potential IronMan. I attended a dinner in Madison and ended up sitting at the same table as Erin, RobbyB, and TriThomps. I’m not sure if I just got the “good” table or what, but they were the nicest people to sit and talk IronMan with. I had a great time and had the opportunity to gather more information regarding the major task at hand – IronMan. Plus Steve in a Speedo?!gross! was sitting at the end of the table -- after reading his post today, that was probably a little too close.

Since that day, I have had dinner with Erin, XT4, Tri-Teacher, RobbyB, Chief-of-stuff, Amy, and Marty. Doing dinner with friends – just not like me, but there is something about “talking shop” (IronMan) with some very nice people.

We met Rural Girl at a mountain bike race last September in which she was participating in her first mountain bike race -- just like we were. Her and her family were very nice and we enjoyed talking with them after the race. Simply Stu's wife happened to be Oldest Mini's teacher last year and of course, he lives in the same community as Team BRAZO. We would see Stu at many tri's during the summer in which he would share his energy and encouragements with us -- very nice guy.

So, now part of my day is made up of reading “blogging friends” blogs, commenting on their blogs, and of course, creating the post for Team BRAZO’s blog.

Maybe these blogging friendships are just right for me, friends without commitments – outside of reading their blogs daily…

Yeah, people tend to shy away from me when we meet face to face.....
