Cross Country Ski report

Earlier this week, my cross country skis were delivered to REI and the bindings were installed. I purchased the glide wax and the kicker wax on Saturday, so I was all set to do some cross country skiing.

In the last week, we have received around 12 inches of snow and the temperatures have stayed cold, so all the snow is still on the ground. Late Saturday evening I decided I’d give the skis a try around the yard. In the dark I made my way slowly around the yard.

I found it a bit hard to get into the “glide” of the ski. It pretty much felt like I was “walking” around the yard with some long skis on. Slowly I made some progress getting the feel of the skis and the kick/gliding that makes you go a bit faster. Mrs. Team BRAZO also “laced” up her skis and followed me around the yard in the dark – gotta like that devotion.

On Sunday I loaded up the ski rack with the skis and headed to a State Park right down the street from our house. The State Park has about six (6) miles of cross country trails. The trails are groomed for both skate skiing and classic skiing. I went around on the “easy” flat trail and started to get the feel for the kick & glide. I just kept going and going until I slowly started to get the feel. After a while I moved onto the intermediate trail (more turns, downhills, uphills, etc).

I still have much to learn and many hours to practice, but for my first time out on the trails – it went better than expected. Tomorrow I’ll hit the trails again and hopefully the snow will stick around for a while.

Lucky you! Thanks for the comment. I hope it isn't anything too serious either. It just plain sucks!! I feel so out of sorts. I am sure you understand being an athlete also.

Have fun skiing!! I wish we had snow!!
