Running on water...

Today I took the Snow Shoes out on the ever melting Bay of Green Bay for a little run. The Bay has been frozen over for at least the last couple of weeks, but a slight warming trend this week has slowly melted much of the ice.

It again was great -- what a perfect way to get outside to run and more importantly another reason to be on the Bay in the winter. We are always looking for another reason to be at the Cottage in the winter. Now we have sledding, ice skating, cross country skiing, snow ball fights, snow fort building, cold nights in front of the fireplace, and now snow shoeing on the Bay.

I stayed close to shore and ran through some of the ice and some of the remaining snow on the shores of the Bay. When you run with the snow shoes on, they tend to "fly" snow up the back of your legs and your back. This doesn't create a problem when it is snow, but with the ice cold water -- it gets a bit cold. Many times I was laughing as the ice cold water was soaking the backs of my legs.

I'm looking forward to when the ice is full and I can go for a longer run farther out from shore. We can now see the open water making its way towards the shore of the Cottage -- now it just depends on the wind direction and the temps tonight whether or not the Bay will be completely open by morning.

Tonight they are calling for 5+ inches of snow, 35mph winds right on shore with gusts to 45mph. Time to close the Cottage shutters, light the fireplace, and relax -- certainly won't be going far in the go-cart...errr...Prius...
